Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved a budget of ₹40 crores for Rajasthan Rural Olympics Games 2024, allocated to the Sports and Education departments. The inauguration of the scheme will take place on the occasion of Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary, led by Chief Minister Gehlot himself in Pal village of Luni constituency.
More than two lakh teams from the rural areas of Rajasthan are participating in this unique sports event, making it the largest sporting congregation in the state. The games include kabaddi, kho-kho, shooting ball, volleyball, tennis, and ball cricket. Over 30 lakh players are expected to participate, including nearly 20 lakh men and around 10 lakh women.
To ensure smooth execution, committees have been formed at the block and village panchayat levels, with coordinators appointed from among the sub-divisional officers and village sarpanches, respectively. Additionally, the Rajasthan government has allocated budgets of ₹10.3 crores for the rural panchayats and ₹7 crores for the block-level events to cover expenses related to the participation of athletes, meals, and other amenities.
Chief Minister Gehlot, along with other dignitaries including Subhash Garg, Minister of Sports, and Krishna Poonia, the Chairperson of the Sports Council, expressed enthusiasm for the Rajasthan Rural Olympics Games, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting sports at the grassroots level.
The event has received overwhelming response, with over 30 lakh players applying to participate, indicating the growing interest and potential in rural sports.
